Valuables worth Tk 20 lakh looted

ARMED robbers looted valuables worth Tk 20 lakh including over Tk 7.5 lakh in cash from the house of a Bangladeshi expatriate in Saudi Arabia at village Lokonpur under Monohorganj upazila in Comilla on Tuesday.
The police said a gang of 10 to 12 robbers broke the collapsible gate of Jahan Monzil and broke open the door of the house with a drill machine. Entering the house the robbers beat up the residents and wife of the expatriate, Golam Sarwar, and his son and took away the keys of the almirahs at gunpoint.
Later, they confined the residents to a toilet, tying their hands from back. The robbers took away around 75 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 7.5 lakh in cash.
The police visited the spot. But they could neither recover the looted goods nor could they arrest any of the criminals.
Meanwhile, the police arrested eight suspected robbers at Panti Bazar under Muradnagar upazila on Sunday night.
Tipped off, a police team raided the Panti Bazar area at about 11:00pm and arrested Rabilulla, 28, Jamal, 19, Abul Bashar, 26, Chan Mia, 18, Shafiq, 18, Ali Hossain,18, Shamim, 19, Jibon, 24, and Zakir, 25, when they were suspected to have a preparation for committing a robbery in the area.
The police also seized a microbus from their possession.
